This
course covers basic computer use for individuals with disabilities.
The use of specialized software and the use of adaptive hardware
is included in this class. Vocational technology use includes:
keyboard use, data entry and transcription accuracy. System and
application software skills appropriate for each student are selected
during the admission interview.

Retail Skills Section: 9 am – 11 am or 1 pm – 3 pm Mon/Tue/Wed
Clerical Skills Section: 11 am – 1 pm Mon/Tue/Wed
Overall, this course focuses on vocational preparation, including successful
job performance behaviors. For example:
What to do and not to
do during your break and mealtime;
How to ask for and get help
in the workplace;
Development of the ability
to attend to, maintain and complete a task.
Vocational skills in a variety
of job-specific activities are addressed as individuals develop specific
areas of interest. For example, the Clerical Skills class explores
data entry, business etiquette and business math. The Retail Skills
group explores math functions with money, product management and customer
service. Opportunities for transfer into other Continuing Education
classes are explored when a student is close to acquiring and being
able to maintain a job.

DEVR 8001.0 thru 8001.2 Vocational Academic Skills
9 am – 11 am or 1 pm – 3 pm Mon/Tue/Wed
This course is designed to build vocational and independent living skills
in reading, writing and mathematics. Instruction covers skills for two
groups of learners: individuals at a pre-reading level (or with skills
below first grade level); and for those at the first through sixth grade
level. Instruction is designed on an individual basis.
Functional Reading features the “Reading A to Z” Reading
Program. A computer-assisted reading instructional program is available
for an extra fee.
Functional Writing includes: Building your Resume;
Personal Communication; Creating Essays and Documents; and Maintaining
an e-mail account.
Functional Mathematics includes: Basic Computation; Calculator usage;
and Time & Money.

DEVR 8001.3 Vocational Academic Support
9 am – 11 am or 1 pm – 3 pm Mon/Tue/Wed
This course requires prior or concurrent registration in a mainstream
ACC course or Level 1 Certificate class. This course serves as a setting
where students can complete their mainstream coursework at their pace,
with modifications in place, including exams.
Fees: $792 Fall/Spring; $495 Summer
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of all course requirements, the student
will be given a certificate of completion as verification of proper
participation
in that course. VoCAT courses are Continuing Education, non-credit
courses. Therefore, they are non-applicable towards a degree program
or certification.
